Free crochet square pattern- The Millie Square

Another day, another granny square pattern! Here’s my newest crochet square design ‘The Millie Square’ (I may or may not have named this after my cat πŸ˜ΈπŸ™ˆ)!

This square is relatively simple, however it’s full of texture and different stitches to keep you interested!

I’ve used a more subtle rainbow colour combination for my square, as I feel it suites the style of the pattern. I was going for a vintage-esque look while designing this square and I thought that using my usual bright colours would be a bit too much! haha!

Another thing that I discovered is that using different colours completely changes the look of the square! Here are some examples by my lovely testers:

A huge thank you to @asraa.crochetcorner, @crochetcolouredglasses and @paulina.s.maraboli for testing this square!

You’ll find the pattern below- I hope you like it! πŸ™‚

YOU’LL NEED:

– Yarn of your choice
I’ve used Cotton DK (8ply) in the colours listed below:

– Corresponding crochet hook
I’ve used a 3.5 mm (Size E) hook. I’d suggest using a 4mm (Size G) if you decide to use acrylic DK/8ply as it tends to be a tiny bit thicker than cotton DK/8ply.

– Blocking equipment

– Yarn needle

– Scissors

Finished size: 18 cm x 18 cm

Gauge: Gauge is not crucial for this pattern. For reference: square measures approx. 6.5 x 6.5 cm (2.6”) after rnd 5.

THIS DESIGN USES US CROCHET TERMS

– st(s) stitch(es)
– sp space
– ch chain
– rnd(s) round(s)
– rep repeat
– slst slip stitch
– sc single crochet

– dc double crochet
– tr treble crochet
– tr cluster treble cluster

Special stitches

Puff stitch [ps]: (yarn over, insert hook in sp and pull yarn through) rep 4 times, yarn over and pull through 8 loops, yarn over and pull through remaining loops.

  1. I cannot wait to begin this pattern. Thankyou. You are sΓ³ talented. Do you maybe have a diagram of the pattern as i find it much easier to work from a diagram.

    1. Thank you for your kind words! πŸ™‚

I do have a chart available in the PDF version of the pattern. You can find the links on where to download the file in the beginning of this post (it’s just before the pattern starts). Hope this helps!
