Reinventing the GRANNY SQUARE 2

img_4040

I just love granny squares and I’m always looking for an excuse to inject a bit of colour in any project so… here’s the second modern granny square in my ‘Reinventing the GRANNY SQUARE’ series [I should really name it ‘how many ends can I create in one square’ series ;)]! Granny Square pattern + a lot of colour changes = a geo rainbow square (with a lot of ends to sew in :P)

To see the first square click here

Let’s get started!

To get the full effect of the square you’ll need 4 different colours – 1 light and 1 dark shade of each.

This will mean you will need a total of 8 different coloured yarn.

1(i) COLOUR A
1(ii) COLOUR H
2(i) COLOUR B
2(ii) COLOUR G
3(i) COLOUR C
3(ii) COLOUR F
4(i) COLOUR D
4(ii) COLOUR E

(number represents colour (eg. pink) and numerals represents shade: i= light, ii=dark

I’ve used the following colours:

Light Pink: Stylecraft Special DK* – Candyfloss (1130)
Dark Pink: Paintbox Yarns Simply DK* – Bubblegum Pink (150)

Light Orange: Paintbox Yarns Simply DK* – Peach Orange (154)

THIS DESIGN USES US CROCHET TERMS

ABBREVIATIONS

– st(s) stitch(es)
– rnd round
– ch chain
– dc double crochet
– slst slip stitch
– ch-sp chain space
– RS right side
– WS wrong side

Colour changes

I’ve used a method called ‘intarsia crochet’. It’s a bit like tapestry and fair isle crochet but rather than carrying your yarn throughout your square, you drop and pick up your colour when required.

Joining a new colour:

Join new colour by pulling yarn through loop on hook- this will count as a chain 1 st.

Switching between colours: use same method as above.

Written Pattern:
